Marco Bezzecchi memimpin sesi latihan bebas pertama untuk Moto2 Styria di Sirkuit Red Bull Ring.

Pembalap yang dikaitkan dengan promosi ke Petronas Yamaha atau VR46 Ducati itu mencatatkan laptime 1 menit 29,115 detik, ia mengungguli Augusto Fernandez dari Marc VDS dengan selisih 0,080 detik.

Aron Canet juga mengawali akhir pekan Grand Prix Styria dengan kuat, menempati posisi ketiga, disusul Lorenzo Dalla Porta dan pembalap Marc VDS lainnya, Sam Lowes, melengkapi lima besar.

Secara mengejutkan, duet Red Bull KTM Ajo tidak memulai akhir pekan dengan memimpin sesi. Remy Gardner dan Raul Fernandez masing-masing hanya menempati posisi ketujuh dan kedelapan.
