<B>Official: BSB goes single tyre for 2008</B>.

An announcement from the MCRCB has confirmed that the single tyre make proposal has now been sanctioned for the 2008 and 2009 BSB and BSS championships.

"Since September 22nd [when the single tyre proposal was announced] MCRCB Events Limited has collated a large amount of relevant information from participating teams and the industry," a statement read.

"Other motor sport championship structures around the World were also researched and there is compelling evidence that the application of this regulation will address the most pertinent issue being debated in Worldwide motorsport;

"The equal distribution of a consumable product, which has the clear ability to influence the results of the competition.

"Other key findings were the amount of annual competition budget allocated to tyre purchase and the amount of tyres consumed during test and race events. Both these areas will be addressed in this process.

"MCRCB Events Limited has now been instructed to commence a tender process and the publication of an "Invitation to Tender" (ITT) document will follow."

At the moment there are three tyre manufacturers in the BSB paddock: HM Plant Honda are the only team to run Michelins, Dunlop supply the bulk of the grid, while Virgin Media and NB racing run Pirellis. Pirelli is the single tyre supplier for the WSBK series.

"Upon publication of the ITT, a period of approximately ten working days will be allowed for the submission of proposals, following which the MCRCB will announce a date when the selection will be made," the statement concluded.
