Cammish 'hearbroken' after losing pole worthy time

Halfords Yuasa Racing's Dan Cammish says he is 'heartbroken' to have had his pole worthy lap deleted during the opening British Touring Car Championship qualifying of the season at Brands Hatch.

Cammish produced a sensational sequence of laps during the opening half of the 30-minute session, which saw the BTCC rookie lead the timesheets with a new qualifying lap record after setting a 47.946s effort.

However, the factory Honda driver's joy proved to be short lived after his time was wiped away from the classification after it was found he committed a pit-lane infringement by driving through a red light.

"I'm heartbroken," Cammish told Crash.net. "I don't know how I recovered to P4. I was heartbroken in the car. I just couldn't believe a lap like that had been robbed from me through something like that.

"It wasn’t for anything like exceeding track limits or cutting a corner, it was in the pits because I missed the weighing scales. There was a million things going on and it just didn't register. I can't really kick myself too much. I'm new to this and everyone knows that.

"I've been thrown in at the deep end with this team because they believe in me. I think today I was about to prove why that is. I feel bitterly disappointed for myself but also for team who have worked so hard.

"They've grafted to get these cars. They deserved pole today, as did I."

Nevertheless, despite his misfortune, Cammish still took a great deal of pride from his qualifying performance after recovering back up the order to fourth.

"It was probably the best lap of my life. All things, I think that was something special. Unfortunately the records aren't going to show it but to be fourth is still a great result," Cammish continued.

"If I wasn't motivated before, you bet I am now! Let's see what tomorrow brings."
