'More to come' from Cammish after maiden podium

Halfords Yuasa Racing's Dan Cammish says there is 'more to come' from him after the British Touring Car Championship rookie secured his first ever podium in the series at Donington Park.

The Honda Civic Type-R driver finished race one in second position behind Power Maxed TAG Racing's Josh Cook after rising from fourth position on the grid, in only his fourth race in the series.

Having made a good launch from the second row, Cammish looked to be in contention for snatching the race lead away from Cook at turn one, but ultimately had to settle back into third before passing Chris Smiley at the end of the opening lap.

Despite initially looking he could close in on the race leading Vauxhall Astra, Cammish admitted he was unable to match Cook as the race progressed.

"It’s good to get a proper dry race where we can stretch our legs a bit and compare ourselves to the other guys. I think we did a good job," Cammish told Crash.net.

"I had a good start and made some good moves to get up into second, then I could set about Josh [Cook].

"The first few laps looked really racy. I thought ‘we’ve got half a chance here’. But then he just kicked up to another gear, which I couldn’t quite match.

"I think there’s a bit more left in me. I was quite happy with P2. He was going to be hard to beat, he’s been strong all weekend. I was so far ahead of third I just decided to settle."

Having tackled the opening race with zero success ballast and the softer compound tyre, Cammish will negotiate the following the encounter with 66 kilos of ballast, while also running the less favoured hard option tyre.

"I think there is definitely more to come. It’s obviously going to get more challenging now with the hard and some weight. That will be a new experience for me as well," Cammish concluded.
