Turkington 'pushed to the maximum' for P6

Team BMW's Colin Turkington says he's approaching today's three British Touring Car Championship races 'with confidence' after qualifying in sixth for race one at Croft.

Turkington carries a 12-point lead ahead of Adam Morgan and Jack Goff into the opening race after taking his first win of the year last time out at Oulton Park.

The Team BMW driver secured a spot on the third row of the grid while carrying 75 kilos of success ballast, but warned his BMW 125i M Sport 'will come alive' as the weight decreases.

"I worked hard for that," Turkington told Crash.net. "There’s nothing left on the table in qualifying. I pushed to the maximum. I should be reasonably satisfied with P6, given maximum ballast but the racer in me wants to be higher.

"I think we got the most out of it today [Saturday] and I can only look forward to race day. When we get the weight out of the car, we’ll come alive.

"We hope the day will improve. We hope the car will improve with less weight. It’s just harder to set the car up with full ballast."

With a resurgent Subaru locking out the front row, Turkington is expecting to Ashley Sutton and Jason Plato 'to disappear' in the opening race, as the BMW driver looks to consolidate his championship lead with a strong points finish.

"I’m still approaching race day with confidence. It’s going to be hard to win races but I’m confident we can score strong points," Turkington continued.

"Everyone has been doing short runs. It really depends on what sort of balance you start the race with. I expect them [Subaru] to disappear. They’ve got enough speed there. It’s how much the FWD cars drop off compared to us.

"Comparing two cars with no weight, RWD cars should be in a better position, but a RWD with no weight gets a harder time. It’s not just a case of me waiting for the FWD cars to drop off."
