Goff targets front row at Snetterton

WIX Racing's Jack Goff admits he'll be disappointed to miss out on the front row in this afternoon's British Touring Car Championship qualifying, after topping the timesheets during FP2 at Snetterton.

The Honda Civic Type-R driver endured a miserable Croft meeting prior to the summer break but looks set to be in contention to reignite his championship challenge after displaying blistering pace in FP2.

Incidentally, Goff topped the tyre test held at same the venue earlier this month, but found the setup gauged from the test wasn't a complete fit for this weekend's conditions during FP1.

Nevertheless, the Eurotech driver has his sights set on securing a front-row slot during the regular 30-minute shootout, which will determine the race one grid order.

"Croft is a meeting we want to forget about. It’s nice to be back we need to be. It is only practice, so it doesn’t mean anything. We need to make sure we get everything right for qualifying to give ourselves the best chance tomorrow," Goff told Crash.net.

"We knew we were going to be somewhere near. We had our test setup on in FP1 and didn’t really work as we were expecting to work. Its different conditions on a different day with different rubber down.

"We went back to our usual setup for FP2 and it was pretty good. A few little tweaks and we should be OK.

"We need to be at the sharp end. I’ll be disappointed if we’re not on the front row. A lot of people will be thinking the same thing but I think we’ll be OK."

Aside from this afternoon's regular qualifying session for race one, the 31-car field will take part in a separate ballast-free one-off qualifying to determine the grid for tomorrow's double-points 'Diamond-Double' race.

"It’s only 15-minutes for qualifying this afternoon with one set of tyres. It’s one more run in the car basically. We don’t get a build up to it. It’s just straight in. It’ll be interesting with nobody running ballast," Goff continued.

"We’ve got 27 kilos of ballast right now, so we’ve got a bit of time in the bag, maybe 0.2s. But Turkington has probably got 0.7s in the bag."
