Goff doubles up with Diamond Jubilee pole

WIX Racing's Jack Goff has secured his second pole position of the day in emphatic fashion after clinching the top-spot for tomorrow's Diamond Double British Touring Car Championship race at Snetterton.

The Honda Civic Type-R driver backed up his pole position for race one with yet another blistering performance during the afternoon's second qualifying session, which determined the grid for tomorrow's double points Diamond Jubliee third race.

Having produced a 1 minute 55.556s lap during Q1, Goff took full advantage of not running any success ballast and eclipsed his previous effort with a 1 minute 55.319s lap.

Three-time BTCC champion Matt Neal came close to usurping his Honda stablemate, but eventually had to settle for second, just over 0.1s shy of Goff's pole-time.

Tom Chilton repaid his Motorbase Performance team for their efforts during an earlier engine change by qualifying his Ford Focus onto the second row with the third fastest time.

Chilton is joined on the second row with Speedworks Motorsport's Tom Ingram in fourth. Crucially, the Toyota Avensis driver will start both race one and three ahead of his nearest title rival and championship leader Colin Turkington.

Team BMW's Turkington fared better during qualifying two, but the two-time champion's run became compromised after his best effort was deleted for exceeding track limits.

At the time of being penalised, Turkington led the timesheets on a 1 minute 55.400s lap, but it was that time which was subsequently removed from the classification, which meant the championship leader eventually had to settle for eighth.

Dan Cammish, Andrew Jordan and Adam Morgan all qualified ahead of Team BMW driver in fifth, sixth and seventh.

Brett Smith qualified his Eurotech prepared Honda Civic Type-R in ninth, while Tom Oliphant once again qualified in tenth.
