Turkington: It's been a tough weekend

Team BMW's Colin Turkington has labelled the sixth round of the 2018 British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton as a 'tough weekend' after losing the points lead to Tom Ingram.

Turkington endured a bruising Sunday at Snetterton which saw the two-time champion record a best finish of sixth during the three races, leaving him six-points behind the Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis of Ingram after coming into round as the championship leader.

Having finished where he started with 15th in race one, Turkington was forced out of the following encounter with broken suspension after receiving contact on the opening corner.

Starting from eighth in race three, Turkington managed to recover some points by finishing in sixth following what proved to be a ferocious multi-car battle for the position.

"It’s been a tough weekend, but I’ve maximised whatever points were possible and ended up with a top-six finish in Race Three by being patient, attacking when my BMW felt at its strongest and biding my time when a move wasn’t possible," said Turkington.

"That’s how you have to drive in the BTCC with so many drivers capable of winning if you want to be in a position to take the championship. Race One was like driving in a carwash, there was that much water and Race Two was over before it began."

Drawing on the positives, Turkington is mindful that arriving at Rockingham in two weeks time with 9 kilos less success ballast, should prove to be an advantage as the BMW driver chases a third BTCC title.

"The points situation is so close at the front that I can look at going to Rockingham second – and without maximum success ballast – as an advantage.”
