Snetterton success 'was a good answer to Croft' - Goff

Honda driver Jack Goff said securing a win and second place during the British Touring Car Championship Diamond Double meeting 'was a good answer' to the Eurotech squad's Croft nightmare.

Having failed to score a single point during what proved to be a disastrous weekend at Croft prior to the summer break, Goff and Eurotech hit back with a vengeance during the Snetterton meeting.

Goff shattered the BTCC lap record in both qualifying sessions to line up on pole position for race one and the third Diamond Double encounter later in the day.

After a grandstand final lap duel, Goff converted his pole into a narrow race one victory ahead of reigning champion Ashley Sutton, before taking the second step on the rostrum during the double-points third race.

Goff held his nerve during an enthralling last lap to regain the lead on the approach to the finish line after briefly losing position to the Subaru of Sutton out of the final corner.

"You win as a team and lose as a team. Apart from race two it was a good weekend. Saturday was almost perfect," Goff told Crash.net.

"I got away at the start [in race one] and had a good gap but with two laps to go I could see Ash [Sutton] closing in. So I had pictures of last year all over again. It was the same guy with two laps to go and he was all over us.

"I said to myself ‘he isn’t having it this time!’ I need to fight this one for team. They’ve worked hard since Croft to turn the car around. I managed to get the win. Apparently it made good TV, which is good!

"Neither of us were going to give up. He dropped his right rear onto the kerb, which I knew would be slippery and it allowed me to get the grip and get the drag on him down the start-finish straight."

Race two proved to be the only blot on Goff's copybook throughout the three races after a 'miscommunication' within his team meant the race one winner missed the pit-exit within the allotted, meaning he had to start the second race from the pit-lane.

Goff subsequently put his race two woes behind him to secure a second place finish behind Honda's Matt Neal during the Diamond Double anniversary race.

As such, a total of 60-points scored at Snetterton has moved the WIX Racing driver back up to fourth in the championship standings, just 17 shy of leader Tom Ingram.

"There was a confusion as far as we thought there was a delay on the time for the start of the race, so we weren’t rushing things. It was just a miscommunication really. It’s a shame but we win as a team and lose as a team," Goff explained.

"It’s nice to end on a positive note, rather than ending on a negative so race three was a good way to finish it off.

"Croft was a non-event as far as I’m concerned. We dusted ourselves off and came back here for the tyre test. We had a positive two day test here, that was really strong," said the WIX Racing driver.

"So to replicate that again was a good answer to Croft."
