Jordan laments 'frustrating' race one incident

BMW Pirtek Racing's Andrew Jordan has paid testament to the strength of his West Surrey Racing built BMW 330i M Sport following his heavy shunt during Sunday's British Touring Car Championship meeting at Donington Park.

As a result of getting caught out by the series of red flags in qualifying, the 2013 BTCC champion was fighting his way back up the order from 16th when he received contact from the Vauxhall of Rob Collard at the Old Hairpin on the opening lap of race one, which tipped his 3 Series into a spin across the exit of corner.

That placed Jordan's BMW directly into the firing line of oncoming traffic behind and was subsequently collected by the Mercedes of Adam Morgan, who had nowhere to go.

Morgan's A-Class slammed into the driver’s door of Jordan's BMW, which inflicted damage to the roll cage of his 3 Series, which ruled the WSR driver out of the remainder of the race day.

Jordan was also taken to hospital for precautionary medical checks where it was revealed he had bruised the cartilage to his side during the incident.

The former champion was quickly released from hospital before returning to the circuit to watch the final two races from his pit garage.

After missing the opportunity to keep touch in the early title race, Jordan vented his frustration over the sequence of events.

“I had a cracking start, but when you’re in the midfield you can find yourself in amongst the idiots. I gave Rob [Collard] racing room; more than a car’s width, but he harpooned me in the rear and turned me around at the Old Hairpin," said Jordan.

"I was parked across the track and received a second really big hit in the door by Adam Morgan, although that wasn’t his fault. The safety cage has done everything it’s been designed to do, and full credit to WSR and BMW for building such a very strong car."

"It’s just a very unfortunate and frustrating incident, because we should have had a very strong day today. It’s cost us a lot of points and I’m pretty sore and feel beaten up.

"There is nothing broken; just bruising of the cartilage on my side, which they’ve said is sometimes more painful than a break. It’s a bit uncomfortable, but we’ll restart our BTCC campaign at Thruxton.”
