AmD's Sam Tordoff has set the pace during the opening British Touring Car Championship practice session of the weekend at Oulton Park after edging fellow Honda driver Dan Cammish in the dying seconds of FP1.

The Honda Civic Type-R driver arrives into this weekend's fifth round of the season sitting 17th in the points standings, but displayed front-running pace as the 2017 BTCC runner-up looks to resurrect his 2019 campaign.

Tordoff had run fourth for most of the opening 40-minute session but saved his best lap until last and produced a 1'26.073s to displace the factory Honda of Cammish by just 0.089s after the chequered flag fell.

Going for a third consecutive double victory this weekend, form-man Andrew Jordan set the third fastest time as the leading BMW effort ahead of two-time champion Jason Plato in fourth.

Plato led the times at the halfway point as the 96-time BTCC race winner continues a resurgent return to form this season with the Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall squad.

After losing some ground in the points battle last time out at Croft, Team Toyota GB's Tom Ingram enjoyed a strong opening session at his Speedworks Motorsport's home circuit after setting the fifth fastest time aboard the Corolla.

Matt Neal was sixth quickest ahead of fellow Honda driver Chris Smiley in seventh, while Ashley Sutton was once again the leading Subaru effort in eighth.

Rory Butcher and Stephen Jelley completed the remainder of the top-ten placings in ninth and tenth.

Elsewhere, championship leader Colin Turkington ended FP1 with the eleventh fastest time ahead of Croft race three winner Tom Chilton in twelfth.
