Turkington leads Cammish in greasy first practice

British Touring Championship points leader Colin Turkington leads title rival Dan Cammish after topping the timesheets during a greasy first practice at Brands Hatch.

With the 2019 BTCC drivers' championship battle set to be decided during this weekend's Brands Hatch season finale, it was the defending three-time champion and current points leader Turkington who set the gauntlet during FP1 after beating his closest title challenger by 0.030s during a truncated opening session.

Just 17-points cover the top-three runners heading into tomorrow's opening race, with 67 still left to play over the course of the weekend.

Greasy track conditions resulted in two red-flag periods with the Team BMW driver's best lap proving to be almost 12-seconds off last year's pole time set by Brett Smith.

While the top-two championship contenders assumed the top-two practice order, Subaru's Ashley Sutton set the third fastest time aboard his BMR Levorg, ahead of Aiden Moffat, who continues to impress in his new Infiniti Q50 in fourth.

Team Parker Racing's Stephen Jelley was fifth fastest ahead of Matt Simpson and title contender Andrew Jordan in sixth and seventh.

Going into this weekend still mathematically in championship contention, Tom Ingram ended the opening session in eighth, while Tom Chilton and Senna Proctor completed the top-ten order in ninth and tenth.

Elsewhere, BTC Racing's Josh Cook, who sits fourth in the drivers' standings 34-points back from Turkington, followed BTCC veterans Jason Plato and Matt Neal, 13th in the FP1 timesheets.

Just 0.922s covered the top-15 order around the iconic Grand Prix layout of the Kent circuit.
