Cammish dominates second practice at Thruxton

Halfords Yuasa Racing's Dan Cammish completed a practice whitewash after dominating the second BTCC session of the day at Thruxton, ahead of Hyundai runner Senna Proctor.

Having already set the fastest ever BTCC lap around the Hampshire circuit during the opening session, Cammish produced a near identical effort during FP2 after clocking a 1'15.386s lap.

Such was the pace of last year's BTCC runner-up, Cammish ended FP2 0.6s clear of Excler8 Motorsport's Proctor in second position. Proctor was the only other driver to dip under the 1'16 barrier during the afternoon running.

As was the case in FP1, FP2 once again resulted in five Hondas engulfing the top-ten order with the Civic Type-R proving to be the strongest package around Thruxton so far this weekend.

Despite setting a marginally slower lap than he managed in FP1, Adam Morgan set the third fastest time for the Carlube Racing Mercedes squad ahead of factory Honda's Matt Neal in fourth.

Championship leader Colin Turkington completed the top-five aboard his Team BMW 3 Series, but was a full second off the ultimate pace. Turkington was followed by Michael Crees, who made a late move up the order with the sixth quickest time.

Chris Smiley ensured both Hyundai’s were represented in the top-ten after the former BTCC race winner produced a lap good enough for seventh.

Toyota Gazoo Racing UK's Tom Ingram fell slightly down the order from his FP1 exploits to end the second session in eighth, while BTC Racing duo Tom Chilton and Josh Cook completed the top-ten FP2 order in ninth and tenth.

Power Maxed Racing substitute Rob Austin made strong progress up the timesheets after the Vauxhall Astra driver moved up to 13th.
