Cammish leads Honda 1-2 in second Silverstone practice

Dan Cammish led a Honda 1-2 in second practice ahead of Matt Neal after breaking the existing pole-position lap record before British Touring Car Championship qualifying at Silverstone.

For the second weekend in a row, Cammish dipped below the existing pole position lap record during a free-practice session after the Team Dynamics driver produced a 57.400s lap around the National configuration of the Grand Prix venue.

With the factory Honda Civic Type-Rs trading fastest sectors at the top of the timesheets, Cammish gained the upper hand on his team mate after producing two-laps underneath Jason Plato's current qualifying lap record.

After jumping to the top of the times prior to halfway point of the session, FP1 pacesetter Ash Sutton had looked set to claim a practice double aboard his Infiniti Q50.

However, the championship leader failed to improve on his 57.558s lap and settled for third ahead of Toyota's Tom Ingram in fourth.

Fresh off the back of his first win of the 2020 season, BTC Racing's Josh Cook was fifth fastest ahead Carlube Racing's Adam Morgan in sixth.

Team Parker Racing's Stephen Jelley produced one of the standout performances of the session after clocking the seventh fastest time. Such was his pace, Jelley ended FP2 as the fastest BMW runner with Team BMW's Tom Oliphant and Colin Turkington in eighth and tenth.

James Gornall caused the biggest surprise of the second 40-minute running after the Audi S3 driver set the ninth fastest time ahead of defending four-time champion Turkington.

Jade Edwards once again completed valuable mileage upon her BTCC qualifying debut with the 27th fastest time.
