Proctor snatches maiden win in wet-dry thriller

Power Maxed TAG Racing's Senna Proctor has claimed an extraordinary maiden British Touring Car Championship race victory after seeing a slick tyre gamble pay off during race two at Brands Hatch.

In what proved to be a race for the ages, Proctor started the second encounter from 27th position on the grid but rapidly rose up the order during the final third of the race as the conditions began to favour the slick tyre runners.

With the vast majority of the field electing to start the race on wet tyres, Speedworks Motorsport's Tom Ingram led the field ahead of Jack Goff and reigning champion Ashley Sutton with just six-laps to go.

However, the race was turned on its head as the slick tyre running cars began to run riot as the track conditions continued to improve. It was Aiden Moffat who catapulted himself to front of the field ahead of race leader Ingram and led an unlikely top-five order comprising of Proctor, Jake Hill, Ollie Jackson and Tom Boardman following behind.

Moffat's race winning hopes had looked to be in peril just two laps prior to taking the lead after the Laser Tools Racing driver lost valuable ground thanks to a huge moment at Surtees, before subsequently recovering as the wet tyre runners began to falters.

Although Moffat made an opportunistic move to snatch the lead a handful of laps before, Proctor immediately latched himself onto the rear of the Mercedes A-Class and made the decisive move in dramatic fashion on the penultimate lap of the race.

Slight contact between the pair meant Moffat slammed into the tyre wall on the exit of Druids corner but managed to re-join and still finish in fifth.

Team HARD's Jake Hill and AmD's Ollie Jackson both profited from Moffat's woes to finish second and third behind the leading Vauxhall Astra, completing an unlikely podium order.

Incidentally, it was each of the top-three finishers first ever trip to the overall BTCC podium.

Boardman was fourth aboard his AmD prepared MG6, while HMS Racing's Rob Austin finished sixth in his second race with the Alfa Romeo Giulietta.
