Turkington clinches first BTCC win of 2018

Colin Turkington has produced a masterful drive to take his and Team BMW's first British Touring Car Championship race victory of the 2018 campaign at Oulton Park.

The BMW 125i M Sport driver started the race from fifth on the grid, but scythed his way through the order to take the race two win by over five-seconds ahead of Honda's Matt Neal.

Turkington's first win of the year has also catapulted the Northern Irish into an 8 point championship lead ahead of Mac Tools Racing's Adam Morgan.

With every driver being moved up a place following race one winner Matt Simpson's withdrawal from the event, Motorbase Performance's led the field on the opening lap, having held off the RWD BMW of Andrew Jordan in second.

While Chilton managed to keep Jordan at bay at the front of the field, Turkington, meanwhile, was on a charge and subsequently placed his BMW into race-winning contention after moving into second position, as early as lap three.

Turkington moved ahead of his team mate Jordan following an inch perfect move at Lodge corner. The two-time champion sliced between Jordan and the slowing BMW of Stephen Jelley at the final corner before setting about the Ford Focus RS of Chilton.

It didn't take long for Turkington to hunt down the race leader and the Team BMW driver made the decisive pass with an equally as clinical overtake on Chilton heading into the final corner.

From there on, Turkington was able to pull away at will, while the Honda Civic Type-R of Neal demoted Chilton down a position further to third.

2013 champion Jordan remained in fourth, ahead of James Cole, who completed the top-five order in fifth.

Team BMW's Rob Collard was another to progress up the order in sixth. HMS Racing's Rob Austin finished in seventh and will start race three on pole position after the reverse grid draw.

Jack Goff, Ollie Jackson and Tom Ingram completed the remainder of the top-ten positions in eighth, ninth and tenth.
