Goff beats Sutton after spectacular last lap duel

WIX Racing's Jack Goff has won his second British Touring Car Championship race of the season after coming out on top of a spectacular final lap exchange with reigning champion Ashley Sutton at Snetterton.

Goff led every lap of the 12-lap encounter from pole position in the treacherous conditions, but had to fend off a herculean final-lap onslaught from the Subaru Levorg of Sutton.

At one point in the race, Goff enjoyed a handsome multi-second advantage over Sutton, who had already produced a mesmerising charge from ninth to second.

However, as the race entered its final third, Sutton's hunt for the lead intensified, which resulted in a grandstand final lap.

For the vast majority of that final lap, Goff appeared to have an answer for Sutton by perfectly placing his Honda Civic Type-R at each corner, as he attempted to quell the attack from the Subaru.

However, a major moment from Goff at the Bomb Hole gave Sutton the run on the race leader around the outside through Coram, which then gave the reigning champion the inside line for the final corner.

But Goff managed to fight back by performing the undercut on Sutton, who was forced to wait on throttle by taking the tighter inside line during the final. Goff's wider line through Murrarys allowed the Honda to out-accelerate the Subaru as the pair drag-raced to the line.

Goff eventually managed to snatch the lead back at the last possible moment as the two leaders crossed the line in a near photo finish, with the Eurotech Honda beating the BMR Subaru by just 0.1s.

A further ten-seconds back factory Honda driver Dan Cammish completed the podium order in third, while Josh Cook held fourth ahead of Motorbase Performance's Sam Tordoff in fifth.

Rob Austin made a slight improvement from his grid position in finish the opening race in sixth, ahead of an impressive drive from Chris Smiley, who took a gigantic leap up the order from 21st to finish in seventh.

Mercedes duo Tom Oliphant and Adam Morgan came through the opener in eighth and ninth, while BTC Norlin Racing's Dan Lloyd sat between the two A-Class machines in ninth.
