Ingram resists Cammish for race one victory

Team Toyota GB's Tom Ingram has scored his second British Touring Car Championship race victory of the season after resisting Honda's Dan Cammish in race one at Snetterton.

Starting from the Corolla's first BTCC pole position in over 27 years, Ingram led every lap of the opening race and kept Cammish at arm's length before gradually increasing his lead towards the end of the race.

With the top four cars running the soft tyre, Ingram led the Honda Civic Type R of Cammish, with Tom Chilton and Sam Tordoff giving chase in third and fourth, while the leading medium tyre runner Colin Turkington quickly fell off the back of the leading quartet in fifth position.

Such was the delta between the soft and medium compounds, Ingram's average lap speed proved to be around 0.7s quicker to that of Turkington in fifth.

Cammish, in turn, also managed to build a gap between himself and the chasing Ford Focus RS of Chilton in third, until the Motorbase Performance driver crashed out of the race at the end of lap five with what looked to be an apparent left front puncture.

With Tordoff inheriting third position, Ingram gradually extended his lead to a winning margin of over three-seconds ahead of Cammish to record his 11th BTCC race victory - his first since Donington Park earlier this year.

Defending champion and points leader Turkington finished in fourth, over 12 seconds behind Tordoff's third placed AmD Honda.

Andrew Jordan remains in touch with his chief rival Turkington after the 2013 champion muscled his way past the Vauxhall Astra of Jason Plato on the tenth lap of the race for fifth position.

Plato consolidated sixth ahead of his Power Maxed Racing team mate Rob Collard in seventh, while Ollie Jackson, Matt Simpson and Jake Hill completed the remainder of the top ten order in eighth, ninth and tenth.

The tenth placed Audi S3 of Hill proved to be the highest placed hard tyre running car and finished almost 30 seconds behind the race winning Corolla of Ingram.
