Aside from taking his sixth win of the year, Jordan's title aspirations took an unexpected boost after his chief title rival and team mate Colin Turkington saw his race two hopes end in the gravel following contact with home hero Rory Butcher.
Just as Jordan had cemented his position in the lead of the race, a daring lunge from Dan Cammish on Butcher for second place at the final hairpin on lap seven of the race spelled disaster for Turkington just three corners later.
Turkington had initially followed Cammish through and demoted the Honda of Butcher back to down fourth place. However, in trying to rescue third position back from the reigning champion, Butcher made contact with Turkington, which sent the BMW into the gravel and down to 27th.
The Team BMW driver did manage to get going again but could only recover as high as 19th, meaning his once healthy championship lead has all but vanished with just seven races left to go.
AmD's Butcher maintained his composure to retain his spot on the podium after resisting the attentions of BMR Subaru's Senna Proctor, who maintained his strongest weekend of the year so far in fourth.
Tom Chilton and Tom Ingram finished lying astern in fifth and sixth, while Adam Morgan led Jason Plato and Josh Cook across the line in seventh, eighth and ninth.
Jake Hill completed the top-ten order for Trade Price Cars Racing.
