Turkington eases to race two victory

Team BMW's Colin Turkington has secured his second British Touring Car Championship race victory of the 2020 season after dominating the second race of the day at Brands Hatch.

The defending four-time champion started the race from second on the grid alongside the Honda of Dan Cammish, but Turkington made light work of powering ahead of the race one winner and into an immediate race lead, while Cammish fell back to fourth in the early stages.

Although Turkington's winning margin was some three-seconds ahead of Toyota's Tom Ingram by the end of the race, the BMW driver was subject to severe pressure for half of the race as Ingram and Cammish filled the 3 Series runner's mirrors.

Turkington also had to contend with a safety car phase, which meant the 38-year old was vulnerable to attack on the restart, while the BMW was slow to gain tyre temperature against its FWD counterparts.

Ingram's Toyota Corolla came close to manufacturing past the BMW following the restart, but Turkington's defence proved inpenetrable.

Laser Tools Racing's Ash Sutton completed the remainder of the podium order in third after Cammish, in contrast to race one, hit mechanical trouble on lap 16 and abruptly fell down the order and out of the points paying places.

Despite starting 25th following his race one heartache, Rory Butcher produced a herculean charge up the order to claim a sensational fourth place finish, scything past 21 cars in the process.

Ollie Jackson followed his Motorbase Performance team mate home in fifth after fending off the hard charging Mercedes A-Class of Adam Morgan in sixth.

Tom Oliphant was seventh for Team BMW ahead of Senna Proctor and Stephen Jelley in eighth and ninth, while James Gornall produced a standout drive to secure his first ever BTCC top-ten finish for the TradePriceCars.com squad.
