Ingram fends off Cammish again to take double victory

Toyota Gazoo Racing UK's Tom Ingram took his second British Touring Car Championship race victory of the day after once again fending off Dan Cammish following a race-long battle with the Honda driver at Thruxton.

Having won the opening race, Ingram started race two from pole position and it was a position the Toyota Corolla driver never relinquished, despite coming under fierce pressure from Cammish during the final couple of laps.

At one stage, Ingram enjoyed a near two-second lead by the end of the opening lap after another slow start from Cammish saw the Team Dynamics driver fall behind his team mate Matt Neal into third.

However, Cammish soon moved back past Neal by the end of the first lap and quickly set about hunting down the race leading Toyota of Ingram.

It didn't take long for Cammish to reduce Ingram's lead to just 0.5s, but the gap began to fluctuate from that moment onwards as the factory Toyota man responded to threat behind.

Nevertheless, in what was a near carbon copy of race one, Ingram was forced to heavily defend his lead into the last chicane ahead of Cammish on the final lap of the race.

Despite Cammish being marginally closer this time round, Ingram successfully protected his position and held the Honda Civic Type R off by just 0.2s as they crossed the line.

Neal once again completed the podium order in third after resisting early pressure from championship leader Ash Sutton in fourth.

Fourth placed Sutton extended his championship lead over Team BMW's Colin Turkington, who managed to recover up the order to 13th and starting the second race from 24th.

Motorbase Performance's Rory Butcher posted another solid drive during the second race and benefited from Adam Morgan's late race retirement to record a top-five finish ahead of Team BMW's Tom Oliphant in sixth.

Morgan ran fifth for much of the race but his Mercedes A-Class suffered an engine issue with just four-laps to go and was forced to head into the pits for an early retirement.

BTC Racing's Tom Chilton finished seventh for the second race in succession ahead of his stablemate Josh Cook in eighth. Cook will start race three from pole position after his finishing position was selected in the reverse grid draw.

Michael Crees and Senna Proctor completed the remainder of the top-ten in ninth and tenth.
