Rockenfeller suffers small metatarsal fracture
Audi's Mike Rockenfeller has suffered a small metatarsal fracture to his left foot following an incident which took him out of today's second Norisring DTM race.
Audi Sport confirmed on its Twitter page that Rockenfeller suffered a small fracture of the fifth metatarsal bone on his left foot.
The Team Phoenix driver was negotiating the Grundig Hairpin when Gary Paffett's severely damaged Mercedes C63 slammed straight into the side of Rockenfeller's Audi RS 5.
Paffett had lost control of his Mercedes whilst battling with Audi's Jamie Green and made heavy contact with Armco barrier heading towards the hairpin as a result.
Catastrophic damage to his car meant Paffett was powerless in avoiding Rockenfeller just seconds later.
The pair emerged from the wreckage of their own accord but Rockenfeller immediately displayed discomfort with his left foot after hopping to the Ambulance.
Both were taken to the Klinikum S?d Hospital in Nuremberg for examination.
Describing the incident, Paffett has expressed his best wishes to Rockenfeller: "That was a bad smash, but I'm fine. I'm sorry that Rocky got hit and injured as a result. I hope he'll get well soon.
"My special thanks go to all the medics - both at the racetrack and in the hospital. They took excellent care of me..."
