Bottas disqualified from qualifying at British Grand Prix
Bottas' car came to a halt at the end of Q1, meaning he was unable to compete in the remainder of qualifying.
The Finn had already done enough to make Q2, with a late lap putting him up to 11th in the timesheets.
Bottas was set to start Sunday's race from 15th on the grid until the stewards decided to throw him out of qualifying.
After qualifying, the FIA confirmed Alfa Romeo couldn't provide a 1.0-litre sample of fuel - the sample taken from Bottas' car was 0.090 litres.
He will start from the back of the grid for Sunday's race.
The stewards noted: "The car was unable to provide the required fuel sample. There were no mitigating circumstances. The stewards have received a request from Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake to allow Car 77 to start the race. The stewards therefore grant permission for Car 77, Valtteri Bottas to start the race."
