Button looking for 'positives' at Belgian Grand Prix
Jenson Button is not alone in looking forward to the resumption of the 2014 F1 campaign in Belgium this weekend, but the Briton is keen to kick-start McLaren's end of season push for results at one of his favourite circuits.
Spa-Francorchamps features highly on any driver's list of thrills, and Button admits that he cannot wait to get out on the Belgian tarmac after F1's summer break, but he is more intent on leaving the Ardennes with confirmation that the MP4-29 has taken another step forward as McLaren looks towards improved results in the remaining races of 2014 and going into next year.
"I had one of my best weekends of the year at Spa last year, qualifying and finishing sixth after running closely with a bunch of cars through the whole race," the 2009 world champion reflected, "It wasn't my best finish of the year, but it was positive because I got the maximum out of the package we had, and was able to fight closely with a number of other drivers, which felt satisfying. Hopefully, there will be positives to take out of this weekend as well."
Button is a former winner of the Belgian Grand Prix, and McLaren also boasts a strong record at the event, having clinched its first grand prix win at Spa in 1968 and gone on to amass 14 wins and eleven pole positions on Belgian soil.
"I go into the second half of the season feeling incredibly refreshed and positive," Button continued, "and there's no better place to resume the season than at Spa-Francorchamps.
"It's one of the best circuits in the world, and it's a place where driving an F1 car always feels incredible. As ever, I'm really looking forward to driving out of the pits for the first time on Friday morning, and just throwing the car into some of the greatest corners in motorsport..."
