Romain Grosjean has unveiled his special helmet tribute to the late Nicky Hayden which he will use for the United States Grand Prix.
The Frenchmen, who races for Haas which is the sole American team in F1, revealed the design on Twitter which has been designed by Adrien Paviot incorporating the American stars and stripes flag along with Hayden’s iconic 69 logo.
The design also includes Hayden’s nickname ‘the Kentucky Kid’ on the back of the helmet plus a redesigned number eight, Grosjean’s race number, in the style of the 2006 MotoGP world champion’s 69 logo on the top of the helmet, in order to keep in line with the new design rules to make drivers easily recognisable.
Hayden tragically passed away from his injuries sustained in a cycling accident in Rimini, Italy, last May aged 30. Tributes have been given to Hayden since his death throughout the motorsport world including 69 seconds of silence in the Italian MotoGP at Mugello.
Grosjean's United States Grand Prix helmet design also includes a subtle nod to his infamous radio rants on the front of the helmet.
The United States Grand Prix takes place at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin on the 20-22 October.
