Raikkonen “all good” after positive COVID test, expects Russian GP F1 return
Raikkonen has missed the last two races at Zandvoort and Monza after testing positive for COVID-19.
Robert Kubica deputised for Raikkonen at both races, performing well given that he hadn’t raced in F1 since the 2019 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Raikkonen took to social media to give us a brief update on his condition.
“I am all good. See you at the next GP,” he wrote on Instagram.
Alfa Romeo lost even more ground to Williams in the constructors’ championship in Raikkonen’s absence with 19 points separating the two teams in the race for P8.
Ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, the 2007 champion announced his retirement from the sport after an accomplished 20-year career.
His retirement paved way for Valtteri Bottas, who will join Alfa Romeo after spending five years with Mercedes.
Raikkonen started his F1 career back in 2001 for Sauber, before moving to McLaren in 2003.
Many regard his time with McLaren as his best years in terms of outright performance but it didn’t earn him a title.
Raikkonen claimed the 2007 title at the expense of Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton but lost his seat to the Spaniard for 2010.
After two years away, Raikkonen returned with Lotus in 2012 before returning to Ferrari for five more seasons.
Alfa Romeo will be the Finn’s final team as he will leave F1 as the sport’s most experienced driver with a record amount of race starts
