F1 doesn’t expect freight delays to impact Brazil weekend
On Wednesday it emerged that some teams were still waiting on freight to arrive in Brazil following last weekend’s Mexico City Grand Prix, with suggestions the delays may even result in schedule changes for the upcoming weekend.
An F1 spokesperson confirmed to Crash.net that the delays were caused by poor weather conditions in Mexico on Monday, but says the freight is expected to arrive on Thursday and have “no wider impact” on the weekend.
“There were delays in freight departing Mexico on Monday due to the weather conditions, meaning some freight is still to arrive in Brazil,” an F1 spokesperson said.
“We expect this to arrive tomorrow with no wider impact on the race weekend.”
While the delays are not set to impact the weekend’s schedule, extra strain will be placed on team's mechanics to build their cars and get them through scrutineering in time for when track action commences on Friday.
The returning Sao Paulo GP is already expected to be a particularly busy weekend given it will be the third event to feature F1’s experimental sprint race format.
Opening practice at Interlagos is scheduled to start at 12:30pm local time (3.30pm GMT), before qualifying takes place between 4.00-5.00pm local time (7.00-8.00pm GMT)
F1 is in the middle of its final triple-header of the season, with teams arriving in Brazil for the Sao Paulo GP having travelled from Mexico. Following this weekend’s event, F1 will head straight on to Qatar next week.
Max Verstappen heads into the weekend 19 points clear of title rival Lewis Hamilton in the world championship.
