Alpine launch 2022 F1 car with blue and pink livery
The updated colour scheme reflects Alpine’s new title sponsorship with Austrian water company BWT, whose pink colour and branding has been incorporated onto the design of the brand new A522.
Alpine presented its new livery on a showcar as its actual 2022 car is in Barcelona ahead of a shakedown run on Tuesday, one day prior to the start of the first pre-season test.
The team will be known officially as BWT Alpine F1 Team as part of the strategic, long-term collaboration.
Alpine’s A522 will be powered by an all-new engine featuring a split-turbo that has been developed by Renault amid the French manufacturer’s push for increased performance in its bid to move closer to the front of the grid.
Renault has lagged behind its fellow F1 power unit manufacturers in recent years but is hoping the change of concept and newly-developed engine can help it find extra gains to plug the gap.
The Enstone-based outfit is looking to improve on its fifth-placed finish in the 2021 constructors’ championship.
Esteban Ocon claimed the team’s first F1 victory since its return to the sport as a full works outfit with a shock win at the Hungaroring, while teammate Fernando Alonso also stood on the podium in Qatar.
Although the driver line-up remains unchanged for 2022, there have been several high-profile changes as part of a senior management restructure over the winter.
Former Aston Martin boss Otmar Szafnauer has been appointed Alpine’s new team principal, while non-executive director Alain Prost and executive director Marcin Budkowski have both departed.
