F2 Barcelona test round-up: Drugovich ends three-day test fastest overall
UNI-Virtuosi's Felipe Drugovich ended the three days of Formula 2 testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya fastest overall.
The Brazilian set the fastest time of the test on the final day during the morning session.
Due to the two month break between the first round in Bahrain and the next round in Monaco at the end of May, organisers arranged a three-day test in Barcelona.
Drugovich’s 1m27.945s put him nearly 0.2s clear of Prema’s Oscar Piastri in the overall final classification.
MP Motorsport’s Richard Verschoor, ART’s Christian Lundgaard and Hitech’s Liam Lawson completed the top five.
Current F2 points leader Guanyu Zhou set the 14th fastest time overall across the three days of testing.
Day 1
Lundgaard dominated the opening day of testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as he topped both sessions.
The ART Grand Prix driver completed 79 laps on the opening day as he got to grips with the Spanish circuit very quickly.
It was a disruptive day with five separate red flag stoppages.
In the morning session, Jehan Daruvala was forced to stop his Carlin at Turn 1, while Piastri caused the second as he stopped at Turn 3.
Gianluca Petecof spun his Campos between Turns 2 and 3, coming to a halt in the gravel trap and thus causing the third red flag of the morning session.
Lirim Zendeli and Roy Nissany caused two further red flags in the afternoon session on a stop-start day to testing in Spain.
Day 2
Verschoor was the man to beat on day two of the test as he continued his good form from the opening round in Bahrain.
The Dutchman finished fifth in the second sprint race and then followed up with a fourth-place in the feature race at the Bahrain International Circuit.
Ralph Boschung was second fastest for Campos, 0.194s off Verschoor, just ahead of Drugovich.
Day 3
Drugovich was the only man to break into the 1m28s bracket in testing and it came during the morning session of day three.
A 1m27.945s on the medium tyres put him nearly 0.2s clear of Piastri in second - enough to put him fastest of all across the three days of testing.
Lundgaard was third fastest ahead of Lawson and Jüri Vips.
Theo Pourchaire was sixth in the second ART Grand Prix, while Prema’s Robert Shwartzman could only manage seventh on day three - 0.5s shy of Drugovich’s impressive benchmark.
