Zhou wins first Monaco F2 sprint race as UNI-Virtuosi scores 1-2
Starting from pole position, Zhou maintained the lead into Turn 1 as teammate Felipe Drugovich dropped behind Christian Lundgaard.
With overtaking so difficult around the streets of Monaco, Zhou’s victory was never under threat.
A late Safety Car caused by Gianluca Petecof didn’t put Zhou under any pressure as he nailed the restart.
Drugovich ensured UNI-Virtuosi scored its first 1-2 finish of the season, moving up a place thanks to Lundgaard’s retirement.
Lundgaard’s ART car started smoking on Lap 13, ultimately coming to a halt at Mirabeau two laps later.
Roy Nissany completed the podium, scoring his first points of the season.
Ralph Boschung also picked up his first points of the campaign with fourth, finishing ahead of Juri Vips.
Dan Ticktum finished sixth ahead of Theo Pourchaire - who made a fantastic start from tenth to move up to eighth on the opening lap.
The 17-year-old claimed a sensational pole on Thursday, meaning he will start from first in Saturday’s feature race.
Oscar Piastri was eighth, while Liam Lawson secured a front-row start in the second sprint race with ninth.
Jehan Daruvala looked on course to finish tenth, but he was overtaken by Marcus Armstrong into the final couple of corners.
This means Armstrong will start on the reverse grid pole for the second sprint race.
It was another torrid race for Prema’s Robert Shwartzman as he was forced to retire after a handful of laps.
The Ferrari junior picked up damage at Casino Square on the opening lap, leaving his title chances in tatters after four races in 2021.
