Jake Hughes to make F2 return with HWA for Monza round
Hughes made his F2 debut last year at the Sochi Autodrom, finishing 12th in the feature race.
The British driver spent two seasons with HWA in F3, winning twice and picking up eight podiums.
He will replace Jack Aitken at the German outfit for this weekend in Italy.
Aitken continues to recover from the injuries he sustained in the Spa 24 Hours last month.
Speaking of the announcement, he said: “I’m delighted to be reuniting with HWA RACELAB for the FIA F2 championship at Monza,” said Hughes. “I really enjoyed my first time in the F2 car at Sochi last year with the team and I’m looking forward to stepping back in this weekend.
“I managed to take a victory here in 2020 with the HWA RACELAB team in F3, so I’m feeling confident that we can do another good job together this weekend despite that lack of preparation! I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone at HWA RACELAB for showing their trust in me once again and bringing me onboard.”
Hughes also made his return to F3 earlier in the year for Carlin, deputising for the injured Kaylen Frederick at the Hungaroring.
