ART Grand Prix retains Pourchaire for 2022 F2 season
The highly-rated Frenchman enjoyed a strong rookie campaign in F1’s main feeder series, finishing fifth in the final standings with two victories to his name.
Pourchaire is part of the Sauber academy and a title-winning campaign in F2 this season could see him gain promotion to Alfa Romeo alongside Valtteri Bottas for 2023.
The 18-year-old has been with ART since 2020 in F3, where he narrowly missed out on the title to Oscar Piastri.
Speaking of the announcement, he said: “I am proud to be continuing in F2 with ART Grand Prix in 2022. It’s an honour for me to work with such a great team. This will be our third year together and it has become like family to me. To continue with them in the pre-cursor to F1 is very exciting.
“I would like to thank the Sauber Academy for accompanying me once again. It will be a busy year and I want to have fun and gain experience for my future. We are more determined than ever and we will be aiming for the F2 title.”
He also took to Twitter, where he wrote: “This team has become a family to me. We already achieved a lot of things together in 2 years. We are dreaming about something big, we will go again for one last challenge. We will compete together again this year in one of the most beautiful motorsport category.”
Team manager Sébastien Philippe added: “Continuing our adventure together makes sense! Théo has shown the range of his talents and there are many of them, both in individual terms and athletic ability. His motivation and determination are in tune with that of ART Grand Prix and winter preparation is going well.”
“When you know that you have all the assets on your side, there is only one thing you can aim for, the title!”
The 2022 F2 season gets underway in Bahrain on March 19-20.
