Stoffel Vandoorne led home Mercedes teammate Nyck de Vries to claim his maiden ABB Formula E victory in the final race of the 2019-20 season in Berlin.

The ex-McLaren Formula 1 driver converted pole position into the win in the sixth and final race to be held at the Tempelhof Aiport to conclude the coronavirus-affected campaign.

Vandoorne only dropped from the lead of the race on two occasions as he activated both of his attack mode boosts en route to a victory which ensured he secured second place in the drivers’ points standings, behind the already-crowned champion Antonio Felix da Costa.

De Vries passed Sebastien Buemi’s Nissan late on to snatch second place and complete a Mercedes 1-2 on home soil.

Formula E newcomer Rene Rast finished his best finish in the series yet with fourth place behind Buemi in his Audi, while Briton’s Sam Bird rose from 14th on the grid to take a strong fifth for the Envision Virgin Racing squad.

Lucas di Grassi was sixth ahead of Techeetah’s Jean-Eric Vergne, who followed up back-to-back title-winning campaigns with a third-place finish in the 2019-20 standings.

Eighth place went the way of Alex Lynn, with the Mahindra racer fended off Techeetah driver da Costa, who sealed his maiden Formula E crown with two races to spare in Germany.

Edoardo Mortara completed the top-10, beating Mitch Evans by just two-tenths to score the final point on offer in the 2019-20 season.

Fresh from his victory in the penultimate race, Oliver Rowland - who had climbed to second in the standings after his maiden win - retired after 25 laps.
