Indianapolis 500 - Race - As it happened

After 10 laps it is still a Penske 1-2-3 as Scott McLaughlin leads the way from Will Power and Josef Newgarden.

Marcus Armstrong is out of the race after he lost all power from his Honda power unit.

The young Kiwi driver of Marcus Armstrong is already in the pits with what appears to be an issue with his Honda power unit.

During the opening caution, many cars already entered the pit lane, but Katherine Legge stalled her car in her pit box.

Three cars come together on the opening lap of the race.

Marcus Ericsson, Tom Blomqvist and Pietro Fittipaldi all come together on the opening lap of the race. The Caution Flag is out already. 

The 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 has begun as the 33 drivers set off on 200 laps around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the iconic event!

The British driver had to pull into pit lane after his first warm-up lap as he could not shift gears in his Arrow McLaren.

Roger Penske had the pleasure of giving the iconic command to the drivers to start their engines ahead of the Indy500.

After the delay to the start of the 108th running of the Indy500 IndyCar has released this statement:

"Per rule 7.3.2.1, while we anticipate plenty of time is available, today's race will go 200 laps or until 8:15pm Et (1:15am BST) - in agreement with local law enforcement, to ensure race fans are able to leave and return home safely tonight."

The 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 is expected at 21:45 BST. After a four-hour delay due to weather and track conditions, the 33 cars are lined up on the grid ready for the green light!
