The monocoque is the safety cell of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One car of Nico Rosberg. It was the aircraft industry which used carbon fibre monocoques first, only to be adapted by F1. It is light, but very strong. In case of an impact, only the nose is supposed to crumble.

Former British F3 regular Jonathan Kennard got a rare Formula One outing this week, after assisting the Williams team with its aerodynamic testing in preparation for 2009.
