Shortly after returning from its momentous showing in the 2002 Le Mans 24-hour race, the DEWALT/RSS Morgan Aero 8 will take part in the Hillclimb competition at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, piloted by Le Mans drivers, Richard Stanton and Steve Hyde, who are joined for this special occasion by Charles Morgan, Managing Director, Morgan Motor Company.
The GT(N) race car, which emphatically silenced all criticism about its invitation to Le Mans by completing 17.5 hours of the legendary 24-hour race and outperforming 3 Ferraris, a Porsche and a Spyker along the way, is also currently competing in the British GT Championship, where it is now beginning to pose a serious challenge to TVR.
Morgan's return to La Sarthe was greeted by an amazing response from the crowd of over 220,000, including many Morgan enthusiasts from all over Europe. The Le Mans car features an aluminium alloy chassis and 4.0-litre Heini Mader-tuned M62 BMW V8 engine, which delivers over 500bhp. It was developed from the Aero 8 road car under the guidance of Morgan's Chief Development Engineer and 1962 Le Mans 24-hour class winner, Christopher Lawrence.
In addition to driving the GT(N), Charles Morgan will also blast the acclaimed Aero 8 road car around the 1.16-mile Hillclimb course.
"I am really looking forward to this," enthused Charles. "I've attended the Festival on a number of occasions but have never driven there. Not only that, but I have also never been behind the wheel of the Le Mans car. I hope it's as much of a thrill for the spectators as it will be for me."
