RC continues unbeaten run, 'Bubba' returns.

A crash in the first moto didn't keep Ricky Carmichael from winning his fifth straight AMA Chevy Trucks 250 Motocross Championship race in front of 20,117 fans at Budds Creek Motocross Park.

The 23-year-old defending champion crashed his Honda during the first moto while battling fellow Floridian Tim Ferry for the lead. Ferry held on to win the first moto, while Carmichael remounted to finish second.

Carmichael then came back and easily won the second moto to earn the overall victory and remain undefeated this season. Honda mounted RC has now won four consecutive overall victories at Budds Creek.

"The track was really muddy on the edges," Carmichael explained. "I tried to go past (Tim) Ferry and got out too wide into the mud and just fell down. I felt I was faster than Ferry in the first moto, but I just couldn't find a way around him."

Frenchman Stephane Roncada earned his best ever AMA 250 Motocross finish by taking second on a Suzuki. Roncada was moved up from the 125 division after Suzuki teammate Sean Hamblin was injured last week in Massachusetts. Kevin Windham was third on his 450F Honda.

Carmichael later said he would take the opportunity to relax during the three-week break in the schedule.

"Maybe I'll go to the beach or something," he said. "We race so much it's good to get away from it for a awhile, but I'll be more than ready to race by Red Bud."

In the 125cc class, James 'Bubba' Stewart (pictured) finally made his much anticipated return to competition for the first time since breaking his collarbone at the final AMA Supercross round in May - and won.

South African Grant Langston finished second over Ivan Tedesco. It was the second podium of the year for Langston and moved him into second in the series standings, 15 points behind Mike Brown.

Brown finished fourth overall. Series contender Ryan Hughes sat out after the pain from his broken leg proved too much.

For Stewart it was a triumphant comeback from injury. And the overall win was not easy. After winning the first moto by an astounding 44 seconds, Stewart crashed in the first turn in the second moto and was dead least.

The Kawasaki star charged all the way back to take the lead from Tedesco three-quarters of the way through the moto in one of the most incredible charges through the field in AMA Motocross history.

"I got my front wheel cut off by another rider going into the first turn," said Stewart, who moved into a tie with Jeff Ward for eighth on the all-time AMA 125 Motocross wins list. "I just started passing everybody as fast as I could. Once I got into third I saw Tedesco and was pretty confident I'd catch him."

Stewart showed no lingering affects from the broken collarbone he had surgery on just over a month ago.

"I was a little surprised I came back and was able to ride so strong through the entire motos. My chances at the title are very slim, but if I can keep having weekends like this and I'll be happy," he added.

Action resumes on July 5-6 at Red Bud Track 'N Trail.
