LIVE UPDATES: Friday practice from the American MotoGP at COTA

Gosh it's getting close between Marini and Vinales who are riding around as if it's the final lap of the race. 

We're underway with MotoGP P2 at COTA!

Good evening and welcome back to the American MotoGP. P2 is coming up at 21:00 UK time. 

Marquez goes second but he's three tenths down on Marini. 

Sensational lap from Marini as he retakes top spot from Quartararo by over five tenths. 

Marini jumps to the top of the leaderboard but there are fast times coming in. 

Vinales goes quickest by over two tenths and breaks into the 2m 3s bracket. 

Vinales is on a flyer...

Miller gets it wrong again at turn 12 as he spectacularly slides his KTM into the left-hander but runs off the circuit. 

Luca Marini nearly makes the same mistake as Miller at turn 12 as he runs off-track but remains aboard his Ducati. 

Quartararo finds more time to improve his time but can't break under the 2m 4s barrier.

Immediate impact for Quartararo after fitting a new medium rear tyre. The Yamaha rider has gone top. 

Miller has returned to pit lane and getting back to his feet immediately. 

Jack Miller has crashed at turn 12.

It's been a much better start to the weekend for Fabio Quartararo who is currently fifth. 

Rins had closed to within a tenth of Marquez but the Gresini Ducati rider goes even faster with a time of 2:04.222s.

What a lap from Marquez as he goes close to four tenths clear of Jorge Martin.

Lap cancelled for Fabio Quartararo as Alex Marquez currently leads the way. 

Folger had smoke coming from the rear of his KTM as the rear tyre was covered in oil, prior to returning to pit lane. 

The black and orange flag has come out for Jonas Folger already as there's a problem with his Tech 3 KTM. 

FP1 is underway at COTA!

There's rain in the air at COTA but Practice 1 is set to start in dry conditions.
