MotoGP rule change: Extra engine from the 19th round
The Grand Prix Commission has announced that MotoGP riders will be given an extra engine to use from the 19th round of the 2022 season.
The previous rules limited riders to a maximum of seven engine changes for the season, or nine for those with access to technical concessions (Aprilia).
However, those numbers were agreed when the MotoGP calendar consisted of less than 20 races, with a biggest ever 21-round season planned for this year.

As such, the following rule changes have been agreed and are effective immediately:
Less than 21 races published on the official calendar that is issued by the FIM prior to the start of the first race:
• Manufacturers will have a maximum engine allocation of 7 engines (9 for manufacturers with concessions).
21 or 22 races published on the calendar that is issued by the FIM prior to the start of the first race:
• Manufacturers will have a maximum engine allocation of 8 engines (10 for manufacturers with concessions).
The use of this 8th (or 10th) engine will only be allowed starting from the 19th event.
The Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island is scheduled to be the 19th event of the 2022 MotoGP season, followed by Sepang in Malaysia and the Valencia season finale on November 6.
With Aleix Espargaro taking the RS-GP's fourth podium at Jerez, all MotoGP manufacturers will compete without access to technical concessions in 2023.
