As speculation about Spaniards Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa perhaps swapping seats, or even riding alongside each other, for the 2010 MotoGP season continues, the following table compares their premier-class statistics to date.

The table shows just how closely the MotoGP statistics of the two riders are, with the only significant difference being the higher ratio of poles achieved by Lorenzo.

Pedrosa made his MotoGP debut in 2006, Lorenzo in 2008. Pedrosa has only ridden for Repsol Honda, Lorenzo only for Fiat Yamaha.

Meanwhile, with his third place finish in Germany, Pedrosa became only the eighth rider to pass the milestone of 2000 career points in grand prix racing. The former 125 and double 250cc world champion now needs just 7 more points to move above Angel Nieto and Alex Criville and become the top scoring Spanish rider of all time.

It should be noted that modern-day competitors are at an advantage due to the current point scoring system, which allocates more points to the leading riders and there are also more grand prix events each year.

Valentino Rossi heads the all-time point scoring list with 3896. Loris Capirossi is second on 3079.
