Dorna boss Ezpeleta buys Marco Simoncelli replica
Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta has been revealed as the winning bidder for a special 'Super SIC' Honda CBR1000RR, auctioned off on eBay to raise funds for the Marco Simoncelli Foundation.
According to Spanish sportspaper Marca, Ezpeleta provided the highest bid at just over 50,000 euros - then raised it to 58,000 in further honour of Simoncelli, who raced with the #58.
Instead of taking ownership of the bike, Ezpeleta will hand it back to Simoncelli's parents.
"We are deeply moved. This gesture will stay in our hearts," Marco's father Paolo is quoted as saying.
Former 250cc world champion Simoncelli lost his life during last October's Malaysian MotoGP race.
The special CBR had been presented to Marco's father, along with Simoncelli's RC212V race bike, by HRC vice president Shuhei Nakamoto.
