The Italian, who starts fourth and heads into the race chasing down a 58 point margin to MotoGP leader Marc Marquez, edged out Maverick Vinales, who was back on aboard the Yamaha after struggling for form in the wet.
Jack Miller will also be confident having not strayed outside the top three all weekend – wet or dry – and starts on the front row this afternoon.
Cal Crutchlow led the way for Honda in fourth, ahead of Fabio Quartararo and pole man Marc Marquez in sixth as Joan Mir, Franco Morbidelli, Alex Rins, Aleix Espargaro and Takaaki Nakagami round out the top ten.
Starring in qualifying to claim KTM’s first front row start, Johann Zarco looks to be facing a challenge to maintain that form this afternoon after ending 23rd and plum last – a position he also in Friday’s FP1 session. Team-mate Pol Espargaro – who starts fifth – was 14th.
