MotoE: Aegerter lights-to-flag as Granado taken out

Dominique Aegerter notched up his maiden MotoE World Cup victory in commanding style, taking a lights-to-flag success in a race that saw erstwhile championship leader Eric Granado finish down the order after a dramatic collision.

Finishing third behind winner Granado a week ago at the same circuit after getting bogged down in a bad start, Aegerter made no such mistake from pole position this time to grab the leading into the first corner, even if he had to contend with the attentions of Matteo Ferrari as they diced around the opening lap.

Granado, however, was having a more troubled time demonstrating the dominant pace that swept him to victory a week ago as he became mired into the busy chasing pack. However, he was beginning to make progress when he was very abruptly swiped off his Energica at Turn 6 on lap with two laps remaining.

Last year’s champion Ferrari was the culprit, the Italian getting his braking wrong on the run into turn six while attempting to overtake Mattia Casadei, instead connecting with the rear of the Avintia rider up ahead and taking them both out instead.

Out front Aegerter controlled the pace to complete victory in only his second outing in the all-electric series, the Swiss rider in turn notching up a first series win for the Dynavolt Intact GP outfit.

Another rider making strong gains on his second weekend in the series, Jordi Torres came home in second position from the recovering Casadei, while Alex de Angelis came out top in a fierce fight with Niccolo Canepa to grab fourth.

Lukas Tulovic finished in sixth position, heading off Mike Di Meglio, Josh Hook and Xavier Simeon, with Xavi Cardelus rounding out the top ten. Granado did manage to finish, scoring three points for 13th.
