Alex Marquez ends Silverstone with ‘good feeling’, claims third top ten in a row
Alex Marquez continued his upturn in form at the British MotoGP with an impressive eighth place finish after making the soft rear tyre last the distance.
Many riders struggled with rear tyre drop off even on the harder medium compound, however, Marquez was able to make the soft work to his advantage, especially in the opening laps after starting 17th.
Marquez was helped by a great launch off the line, while many around him went backwards on the opening lap.
From then on, Marquez slowly made his way forward before the final five laps arrived, as he too began to struggle.
Still, the tyre drop off for Marquez wasn’t as severe as others around him including world champion Joan Mir who finished one place behind his fellow Spaniard - lost three spots in the final three laps.
Marquez said: "Yeah, quite happy honestly. Starting from P17 is not always easy, but I did a good start and we chose the soft rear (tyre) which I think was the right choice for us to have the feeling in the first laps, to make overtakes and to gain some positions.
"The last few laps we were suffering a lot with the rear tyre because the right side was finished.
"But overall, the weekend started not in really good shape, we took crashes which cost us a lot of time to not work on the bike, but I think we did a really good step from yesterday to today with the bike.
"I need to say thanks to the team because they had a really good reaction from that side, and yeah, happy.
"We finished with a good feeling here in Silverstone before Aragon, which is a track that I like a lot."
