This weekend's event marks the return to MotoGP action of Italian stars Franco Morbidelli and Andrea Dovizioso.
Last year's race winner Morbidelli, sidelined since June due to left knee surgery, is making his debut at Monster Yamaha this weekend, as the full time replacement for Maverick Vinales alongside world championship leader Fabio Quartararo.
Taking over Morbidelli's ex-Petronas Yamaha bike is triple MotoGP title runner-up Andrea Dovizioso, the former Ducati star has been absent from the grid this season but is now set to finish the year at SRT and then remain with the revised satellite Yamaha team for the full 2022 season.
Another Italian, Francesco Bagnaia arrives for his and Ducati's home round on a high from last weekend's brilliant debut MotoGP victory over Marc Marquez, and seeking revenge after crashing out of a safe lead one year ago.
Quartararo will be looking to bounce back from a 'strange' rear tyre issue at Aragon and maintain his 53-point title advantage. Reigning champion Joan Mir was on the podium last Sunday but continues to chase his first win of the season, while Maverick Vinales makes his second race apperance for Aprilia, who arrive home after the RS-GP's best ever 3-4 results with Aleix Espargaro.
A two-day official test will be held next week while the second Misano round, also the final home MotoGP appearance for local legend Valentino Rossi, will take place on October 22-24.
