'Something I couldn't have imagined' - Marc Marquez starts tenth year in MotoGP

This weekend's Qatar Grand Prix is also the start point for Marc Marquez's tenth year as a MotoGP rider.

The Spaniard joined the premier-class in 2013 and has remained a Repsol Honda rider ever since, winning 59 races (41%), 99 podiums (70%) and six world championships, to add to his previous titles in the 125 and Moto2 classes.

Sunday in Qatar could see Marquez become only the fourth rider in history to reach 100 premier-class podiums, while the many records he has already achieved include 10 wins in a row and 13 wins in a season (2014), plus the most points in a single season (420) in 2019.

In the following video, Marquez - who missed almost all of the 2020 season, plus start and finish of 2021 due to injury - reflects on his MotoGP career to date including; why he picks Dani Pedrosa as his best team-mate, how 2020 is his biggest regret and taught him "you only have one body", his goals for the next ten years and desire to try a 500cc two-stroke.

"Ten seasons in MotoGP and with Repsol Honda is something I couldn't have imagined in my best dreams… we will try to win the [2022] title to celebrate well!" Marquez says.

Now 29, Marquez admits he's unlikely to still be racing in a decade's time, but - as with Valentino Rossi before him - insists that results alone will decide when the time is right to stop:

"I always say, when I will not have the level to fight for the top three there's no meaning to race for me."
