Matteo Ferrari has claimed his maiden MotoE win in the Misano opener to take the lead in the points standings.

The Trentino Gresini rider matched Xavier Simeon throughout the opening stages as pole-sitter Alex de Angelis high-sided off on Lap 4, before charging into the lead with two laps to go.

Ferrari escaped any late-race attacks, with Simeon and Garzo battling for position over the final lap, leaving the Italian to clinch victory and with it the points lead.

Tech 3’s Garzo got the better of Simeon on the Avintia for second place, with Jesko Raffin behind the podium trio in fourth place for Dynavolt Intact GP.

Niccolo Canepa grabbed fifth place for LCR ahead of Maria Herrera on the OpenBank Angel Nieto bike with Lorenzo Savadori in seventh place for Gresini.

Bradley Smith saw his race wrecked on Lap 2 when he was caught up in an clash between Niki Tuuli and Mattia Casadei as the British rider was taken out on the outside of the corner. Smith remounted to take 12th place.

Former MotoE points leader Mike Di Meglio was another to suffer a nightmare opener at Misano as he was hit by technical issues with his EG 0,0 Marc VDS bike which forced him to retire from the race.

MotoE returns to action tomorrow at Misano for Race 2 of the double-header.
