Brad Binder leads a surprise KTM one-two ahead of the Marquez brothers during Friday practice for the 2025 Catalan MotoGP at Barcelona.

After Marc Marquez led most of the morning session, Alex was in command for the majority of the afternoon - both brothers racking up the laps on medium compound tyres front and rear.

Meanwhile, morning leader Pedro Acosta was again at the sharp end, just a fraction behind Alex, as he dedicated his track time to the soft rear tyre.

Fellow KTM rider Enea Bastianini then fired the starting gun for time attacks by replacing Alex Marquez at the top on new rubber, with 15 minutes to go.

Marc Marquez put Ducati back on top with his first time attack and remained on top of the timesheets until bettered by Alex on the edge of the final ten minutes.

The #93 followed the #73 out of the pits for their last run, but the KTMs went under the radar - until Acosta and team-mate Binder took over first place in quick succession!

Marc’s team-mate Francesco Bagnaia - winner of the past three races at Barcelona, but only 23rd this morning - remained off the pace in the afternoon.

The Italian was still 21st as he began his final run, then was left frustrated when yellow flags caused by an Enea Bastianini accident ruined any hope of improvement.

Bagnaia will thus have to fight through Qualifying 1 for the second event in a row, facing the likes of a furious Fabio Quartararo, again the top Yamaha, but only eleventh.

Fabio di Giannantonio was as low as 22nd before finishing 17th. Reigning world champion Jorge Martin was only 18th at the track where he made his RS-GP debut last November.

By contrast, team-mate Marco Bezzecchi is directly through to Qualifying 2, alongside Trackhouse rookie Ai Ogura, plus the Hondas of Johann Zarco and Luca Marini.

A fresh set of tyres helped Pedro Acosta and Johann Zarco get the better of Marc Marquez at the end of opening practice for the Catalan MotoGP at Barcelona.

Marquez was fastest for most of the session, finishing 0.219s from the top on old soft front and medium rear rubber.

While Marquez is seeking to put one hand on the title by extending his 14-race win streak this weekend, team-mate Francesco Bagnaia is hoping for confirmation of a big set-up change in Balaton Park.

But the Italian was ahead of only Somkiat Chantra this morning, 1.5s behind Acosta.

Tech3’s Maverick Vinales is attempting a second comeback from a shoulder injury at Sachsenring and was an impressive fourth, on new rubber, this morning.

Alex Marquez joined his brother in staying on used tyres, while Luca Marini, Brad Binder, Marco Bezzecchi, Aleix Espargaro benefited from a late tyre change.

Vinales' Tech3 team-mate Enea Bastianini was the third rider in the top ten to remain on old rubber.

Newly confirmed 2026 Pramac Yamaha rider Jack Miller was the first faller of the weekend, at the end of the back straight, before rising to eleventh.

LCR rookie Somkiat Chantra, absent since knee ligament injuries after the Dutch round, is also making a return to action this weekend.

HRC test rider Aleix Espargaro - who had to withdraw from a planned Balaton Park appearance at LCR due to a back injury in a cycling accident – has a wild-card entry for his home event.

Espargaro won the 2023 Catalan MotoGP for Aprilia and took a Sprint victory last season.

Aprilia is fielding its test rider Lorenzo Savadori on a fifth RS-GP this weekend.
