British MotoGP, Silverstone - Full Qualifying Results
MotoGP qualifying at Silverstone came to a confusing conclusion as timing screens credited rookie Jorge Martin with going 1.5s quicker than anyone through sector 2 on the way to pole position by a huge 0.881s, a margin so big that even his Pramac team were refusing to celebrate.
Replays later showed Martin completely missed Turn 8 and the lap time was finally cancelled, handing a delighted Pol Espargaro his first pole position in Repsol Honda colours ahead of Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia and Yamaha's world championship leader Fabio Quartararo.
Martin was demoted to fourth and will be joined on row two by Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) and the Aprilia of Aleix Espargaro.
With Maverick Vinales splitting from Yamaha after Austria, test rider Cal Crutchlow has been moved from Petronas Yamaha to the Monster Yamaha team at Silverstone.
As a result of Crutchlow's move, SRT has called-up Moto2 rider Jake Dixon to make a MotoGP debut in front of his home fans this weekend, riding in place of the injured Franco Morbidelli on the team's 2019-based A-Spec bike.
Aprilia's Lorenzo Savadori abandoned his return from ankle injuries due to pain during Friday practice.
This weekend's event marks MotoGP's first visit to Silverstone since before the Covid pandemic, in 2019.
