Corvette to make WEC return at Lone Star Le Mans

Corvette Racing has confirmed its place on the grid for the FIA World Endurance Championship's Lone Star Le Mans race with a single-car entry.

Corvette's factory programme in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship makes the marque a regular at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but it expanded into additional WEC entries through the 2018-19 season at Shanghai and Sebring.

The new, mid-engined Corvette C8.R will now join the grid for the upcoming round at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas on February 23.

It will mark only the second outing for the new C8.R car in race trim following its debut in the Rolex 24 at Daytona at the end of January.

The addition of Corvette to the grid for the race boosts the GTE-Pro class up to seven entries, joining the brace of cars each entered by Porsche, Ferrari and Aston Martin.

While the driver line-up is still to be confirmed, it is likely to feature two of Corvette's full-season factory IMSA drivers, with a revised crew for 2020 confirmed last month.

Jordan Taylor has joined Corvette in place of Jan Magnussen, partnering Antonio Garcia in the #3 entry for the IMSA season, while Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner will continue to race together in the #4 car.

Confirmation of Corvette's addition to the grid came in the early publication of the provisional entry list for the COTA WEC race, which was announced at the beginning of December as a late replacement for the planned 6 Hours of Sao Paulo at Interlagos, which was cancelled due to issues with the promoter.
